Metal Roofing in Utah
Thinking about a metal roof for your Utah home? You are not alone. Metal has become the fastest-growing roofing choice along the Wasatch Front, and for good reason: between summer hail, canyon winds, heavy snow years, and high-elevation sun that ages asphalt shingles ahead of schedule, Utah is exactly the kind of climate where a metal roof earns its keep.

Why Metal Roofing Makes Sense in Utah
- Hail resistance. Class 4 impact-rated panels shrug off the June-through-September hail that bruises asphalt shingles and quietly shortens their life.
- Canyon winds. Properly installed standing seam systems are engineered for winds well past 120 mph. The gusts that roll out of Provo Canyon and American Fork Canyon peel shingles — not locked panels.
- Snow shedding. Metal sheds snow instead of holding it, which means fewer ice dams and less of the freeze-thaw cycling that works water underneath shingles.
- High-elevation UV. At 4,500+ feet, ultraviolet exposure dries out and fades asphalt years early. Premium PVDF (Kynar 500) finishes hold their color and integrity for decades.
- Fire resistance. Metal carries a Class A fire rating — meaningful for homes along the benches and foothills.
- Lifespan. A quality metal roof lasts 40 to 60 years, versus 20 to 25 for architectural asphalt. For many homeowners it is the last roof they ever buy.
Metal Roofing Systems We Install
Standing Seam
Concealed-fastener vertical panels — the cleanest look and the best weather seal metal offers. No exposed screws to back out or gaskets to dry up. This is the premium option, and the one we recommend most often for primary residences.
Stone-Coated Steel
Steel panels finished with a stone granule coating that convincingly mimics shake, tile, or traditional shingles. Great for neighborhoods where a bare-metal look will not fly, and the texture hides hail marks well.
Metal Shingles
Interlocking metal panels shaped like individual shingles — a middle ground on price that keeps a traditional profile while adding metal durability.
Corrugated and Exposed-Fastener Panels
The budget end of metal — a solid choice for shops, barns, and cabins. We will be honest: exposed fasteners need periodic checks and eventual re-tightening, so for your main home we usually steer you toward concealed-fastener systems.

What a Metal Roof Really Costs in Utah
Straight talk: expect a metal roof to run roughly two to three times the upfront cost of architectural asphalt shingles. Panel profile, steel gauge, finish, roof pitch, and complexity all move the number — which is why we do not quote from the street.
The math most homeowners actually care about is cost per year of service. A metal roof that lasts twice as long, sheds hail that would total an asphalt roof, and trims summer cooling bills with a reflective finish often comes out ahead over its life. We will measure your roof, walk your options, and put an exact number in writing — free. You can also get a ballpark in about a minute with our instant roof quote tool.

Metal Roofing FAQs
Is a metal roof loud when it rains?
Not on a home. Installed over solid decking and underlayment, a metal roof sounds about the same indoors as asphalt. The rain-on-a-barn noise comes from open framing with no deck — a different animal.
Can you install metal over my existing shingles?
Sometimes, if there is a single flat layer in good shape. That said, we usually recommend tear-off so we can inspect and fix the decking underneath — covering problems does not make them go away. We will tell you which route fits after the inspection.
Will it dent in hail?
Thicker-gauge panels and stone-coated steel resist denting well, and Class 4 impact-rated systems are available. In extreme hail, cosmetic dings are possible — but unlike bruised asphalt, they very rarely turn into leaks.
How long will a metal roof last?
Forty to sixty years is a realistic range in Utah with basic upkeep, and panel finishes carry manufacturer-backed warranties. Most asphalt roofs here are replaced twice in that window.
Will my HOA approve a metal roof?
Usually, yes — stone-coated steel and metal shingles keep a traditional profile that satisfies most HOA guidelines. We are happy to provide spec sheets and color samples for your approval packet.
