September 2026 Hail Storm Damage: Davis County, Wasatch & South Valley

On September 18, 2026, a severe storm tracked northeast across Davis County, bringing hail damage to Layton, Kaysville, and Farmington. The same week, hail reached Heber City in Wasatch County, while Herriman and Bluffdale, at the base of the Traverse Mountain gap, were hit during the broader late-summer storm sequence.

If your roof hasn't been inspected since September 18, hail bruises, broken seal strips, and dented soft metals may already be sitting undetected — and won't show up until the next heavy rain.

We are dispatching inspection crews into Davis County and the South Valley now. Inspections are free, no-obligation, and include the date-stamped photo documentation your insurance adjuster needs.

Signs of Hail & Wind Storm Damage on Your Roof

Fresh storm damage is easiest to identify before rain washes loose granules away and marks weather in. Much of this damage cannot be seen from your driveway:

Hail Bruises & Fiberglass Mat Fractures

Hail impacts create soft spots where granules are punched into the asphalt mat. When impacts fracture the underlying fiberglass layer, the waterproof integrity is broken, leading to slow attic leaks.

Creased Shingles & Broken Seal Strips

Canyon wind gusts lift shingle tabs and snap the thermal seal strip beneath. Even if the shingle settles back flat, the broken bond leaves it loose and ready to tear off in the next blow.

Ice Dam Ridges & Eave Water Backups

Winter freeze-thaw cycles create ice dams that trap melting snow at the roof edge. Standing water backs up under cold shingles, soaking underlayment and dripping directly into ceilings.

Dented Soft Metals & Exposed Decking

Metal vents and chimney aprons show impact dents permanently, providing proof of hail size. At edges and rakes, wind peels underlayment away, leaving bare decking exposed to rain.

Not sure if the storm damaged your roof? We walk every slope, check seals by hand, and give you a straight answer in writing — including “no damage found” when your roof came through fine.

Storm Damage Restoration Services in Utah

From rapid emergency seals to detailed photo documentation for insurance adjusters, we handle the full aftermath of severe weather.

Emergency Tarping & Severe Weather Repairs

  • Emergency Tarping & Temporary Seals: Rapid-response dispatch to secure heavy-duty tarps over exposed decking, broken skylights, or torn ridges, preventing costly ceiling collapses.
  • Targeted Storm Repairs: If damage is isolated to a single slope or edge, we replace damaged shingles with close color matches and hand-seal surrounding tabs without forcing unnecessary full replacements.

Hail, Wind & Ice Dam Restoration

  • Hail Impact & Vent Repairs: We document bruised shingles, cracked fiberglass mats, and dented metal fixtures, restoring compromised roof slopes under one written warranty.
  • Canyon Wind Damage Restoration: Replacing blown-off shingles, re-bonding loosened seal strips along rakes and ridges, and repairing wind-lifted metal flashing.
  • Ice Dam Damage & Freeze-Thaw Repair: Clearing trapped meltwater dams, testing heat cables, and repairing waterlogged shingles, compromised drip edges, and softened decking.

Forensic Inspection & Photo Documentation

  • Hands-On Physical Inspection: Every slope gets walked, not sampled from a ladder. We physically check shingle bond lines, flashings, pipe boots, and soft metals.
  • Date-Stamped Photo Set & Written Summary: You receive paired overview and close-up photos organized slope-by-slope, alongside an objective written report detailing findings and repair scopes.

Insurance Claims & Storm History Records

  • Adjuster-Ready Claim Documentation: We provide itemized measurements, damage photos, and scope sheets so you have exactly what you need to file your claim smoothly.
  • Utah NOAA Storm History Verification: We cross-reference storm dates with local NOAA/NCEI weather records across Utah County and Salt Lake County to verify hail size and peak wind gusts.

What Affects Storm Damage Repair Cost?

Storm restoration costs depend entirely on how far wind, hail, and ice spread the impact across your roofline:

Scope of Spread

A few blown-off shingles along an eave versus systemic unsealed tabs or widespread ice dam saturation.

Decking Condition

Whether exposed decking absorbed water during the storm and requires wood re-sheeting.

Component Replacements

Replacing dented metal box vents, pipe collars, damaged drip edges, and crushed gutter runs.

Insurance Deductible vs. Out-of-Pocket

For minor repairs under your deductible, we provide firm, direct pricing so you avoid filing unnecessary claims.

You will receive a clear, itemized written estimate after your free on-site inspection.

Need financing for non-insured repairs or deductibles? We offer flexible payment plans — see our financing page for details.

I was quite impressed with Matthew. He sent me a text to let me know he was on his way and he was actually on my doorstep probably less than one hour after I contacted them. We had a mystery roof leak that was dripping water through a can light in our hallway each time we've had a downpour of heavy rain. He quickly diagnosed the problem, made the repairs, checked in my attic for residual moisture, and left me with a warranty, and all was done in probably less than a couple of hours. He was very personable and pleasant to work with. I have confidence I don't need to worry anymore whenever we get a heavy rainstorm!

Here's the deal, we made a mistake. We didn't go with Rooval Roofing for our new roof and we are regretting it now. We picked a company that wasn't as highly rated, but was a bit cheaper. We got what we paid for. Our roof has numerous issues and we aren't happy. We talked with Rooval and even though we didn't contract them for our roof they are still nice enough to help fix the problems we are having. This is a classic example of "you get what you pay for" so if you're on the fence I hope this review sways you in the right direction, and Rooval Roofing is the right choice! The company and its employees are first class. Don't make the mistake we did. The shortest road is always the longest.

Utah Storm Damage FAQs

My shingles look fine from the ground — could there still be damage?

Yes. A wind-creased shingle usually settles back flat, and a broken seal strip is completely invisible from the driveway. Hail bruises and ice dam underlayment rot only show up on the roof surface. All leave your roof vulnerable to leaks during the next storm.

Yes — in writing. Many Utah roofs come through wind and hail storms without functional damage. We would rather hand you a report confirming your roof is healthy than invent unnecessary work.

We inspect your roof, take date-stamped overview and close-up photos, and provide an itemized written damage report. You file the claim, and we make sure your adjuster has clear physical proof of all damaged slopes and soft metals.

Storm chasers are out-of-state roofing crews that follow severe hail swaths, knock on doors, pressure homeowners into signing over insurance benefits, and rush cheap installations. Once storms pass, they leave town, leaving homeowners with voided warranties and no local support. Always verify a permanent Utah General Contractor license.

Not always. Isolated hail impacts on a structurally sound roof can often be repaired slope-by-slope. Widespread damage across multiple slopes, fractured decking, or saturated underlayment typically warrants full replacement. A free inspection gives you a straight answer either way.

You likely can’t tell from the ground. Hail bruises, broken seal strips, and dented soft metals are only visible from the roof surface. The September 18 storm produced up to 2.00-inch hail damage in Utah over Davis County — large enough to fracture fiberglass mats without any visible surface tear.

Yes. We provide date-stamped photos, written slope-by-slope findings, and itemized measurements your adjuster needs to process the claim. You own the documentation regardless of whether you proceed with repairs.

Don’t go on the roof yourself. Photograph anything visible from the ground, note the storm date, and schedule a professional inspection as soon as possible. Early documentation protects your insurance filing timeline and prevents minor damage from becoming a larger leak.

Yes — both. After inspection we tell you whether targeted repairs will restore the roof or whether the damage scope warrants full replacement. You get a written estimate for whichever path applies.

Yes. Following the September 2026 hail storm damage across Davis County, we are actively dispatching inspection crews into Layton, Kaysville, Farmington, and Heber City. Inspections are free and include date-stamped documentation.

Yes. Bluffdale and Herriman sit in a high-frequency hail damage corridor along the Traverse Mountain gap and were impacted during the late-summer 2026 storm sequence. We serve both communities from our Lehi headquarters.

Possibly. The September 18 storm put up to 2.00-inch hail over Davis County — Layton, Kaysville, and Farmington took the direct hit. Heber City saw ping-pong-sized hail the same week. Herriman and Bluffdale sit in a high-frequency hail corridor and saw impact during the same storm sequence. A free inspection will tell you exactly what condition your roof is in, in writing.

As soon as possible. Fresh hail impacts and seal breaks are easiest to document before rain washes loose granules away. Early documentation ensures you meet insurance filing deadlines and prevents minor storm tears from developing into hidden attic rot.
